After a preview showing at Vinitaly, Canevel Spumanti, a Masi Group château property in Valdobbiadene, is launching San Biagio Brut Nature Valdobbiadene DOCG.
San Biagio is made from 100% Glera grapes from the hillside vineyards of Valdobbiadene and produced using the “sur lie” method to provide the consumer with the essence of the area’s winemaking heritage and tradition. Prosecco col fondo or “on the lees” is in fact the oldest format of sparkling wine produced in Valdobbiadene.
Federico Girotto, President and CEO of Canevel Spumanti, says, “San Biagio reaffirms Canevel’s anchorage to the Valdobbiadene region with a production method that is ancient and modern at the same time. In recent years we have refined our company’s ‘Setàge’ sparkling wine protocol and also developed our distribution in Italy and on international markets, consolidating our brand’s premium positioning and reaching no fewer than 40 countries with an extremely versatile range of sparkling wines. San Biagio is certainly our ‘tribute to the past,’ but it is made by the Canevel of today, fully immersed in contemporary culture and future-oriented.”
The link to its roots is also shown in the name, which comes from the eponymous Valdobbiadene hillside where the winery is based.
The new San Biagio sparkling wine is now available as a limited-edition release. Second fermentation in the bottle gives it a unique personality, formed by a fine and long-lasting perlage, a soft and complex taste, a long savoury finish and the unmistakable presence of undisgorged yeasts. Pale yellow in colour with greenish highlights; on the nose, delicate aromas of vine blossom, apples, and citrus fruits. San Biagio is the ideal aperitif, served chilled with traditional cicchetti. Excellent with tasty salads, vegetarian pasta dishes, fish crudités, salt cod or sweet-and-sour sardines.
